Who's behind this

Komiti is built by Peter Kritsotakis, in Sydney. It exists because the problem it solves was mine first.

Why I built it

The thing that finally did it was hiring a chef. He asked what he'd be paid and I realised the honest answer was that I'd have to spend an evening working it out — the award, the classification, the offer letter, the statements I was legally required to hand him on day one. I'd been in hospitality two decades and it was still a night's work.

That's not a knowledge problem you fix by reading harder. Small operators don't need more information about compliance; there's an enormous amount of it, published free, by the regulators themselves. What's missing is knowing which of it applies to you, and being told before the date rather than after.

What Komiti will and won't do

• It links to the source, every time. Every obligation and every answer carries the ATO, Fair Work, ASIC or state-regulator page it came from. If Komiti can't back something with a real source, it says so rather than filling the gap.
• It won't tell you an award pay rate. Komiti doesn't hold award rate data, and a wrong rate is a real underpayment — which since January 2025 can be a criminal offence. The hiring tool names the likely award and flags it as unverified, then sends you to Fair Work's own calculator for the rate itself. That's deliberate, and it's not changing until Komiti has the Fair Work Commission's licensed rate data.
• It isn't your accountant or your lawyer. It won't tell you your specific tax liability, choose your business structure, or draft a bespoke contract. It will tell you plainly when that's the conversation you need to be having.
• Your data stays yours. Region-pinned Oceania storage, delete anything or everything whenever you like. The privacy policy names every processor.

The honest state of it

Komiti is early. It's free while it's being built, and I'd rather have a small number of businesses telling me what's wrong with it than a large number of signups who never use it. If something's broken or an answer is off, I want to hear about it — that feedback is currently more valuable to me than the money.
